The 5th Korea-China Judicial Seminar was hosted at the Supreme Court of the Republic of Korea on December 15, 2016. Led by Judge LEE Yeong-hun, who is currently serving as the Chief of Judicial IT Bureau established under the National Court Administration, the six Korean participants had fruitful discussions with six Chinese participants headed by Vice President LI Xiaomin of National Judges’ College.
Professor LI Xiaomin and his five delegates began the official visitation by paying courtesy call on the Vice Minister of National Court Administration at the Supreme Court on the 14th. Commencing with keynote speeches from both sides, the Seminar covered topics including the IT application in courts, current status and challenges in bankruptcy trial divisions and comparison of legal precedent systems of Korea and China over three sessions. The Seminar delegation also pursued active judicial exchanges by making visits to the Judicial Policy Institute, Judicial Research and Training Institute and Supreme Court Judicial IT Center, and meeting with Chief Presiding Judge of Busan District Court.
The Korea-China Judicial Seminar was first held in 2008 in accordance to the MOU on Judicial Exchanges and Cooperation signed between the Supreme Court of the Republic of Korea and Supreme People’s Court of the People’s Republic of China. The two judiciaries take turns and host the seminars in each country, and the 2016 Seminar marks the fifth hosting of the seminar. Building onto the previous seminars as well as the 2016 Seminar, the two judiciaries plan to continue hosting the meaningful seminars in the future.
