The Honorable Kairat Mami, Chief Justice of the Republic of Kazakhstan, visited Korea from April 24 to 27, 2017 upon the invitation of Chief Justice Yang Sung-tae for promoting exchanges and strengthening cooperation between the Supreme Court of Korea and the Supreme Court of Kazakhstan.
This visit was made as a return visit for the visit of Chief Justice Yang to the Supreme Court of Kazakhstan in June 2016.
Four people including Justice of the Supreme Court Askar Smailov and President of City Court of Astana Tlektes Barpibaev, accompanied Chief Justice Mami this time.
As shown from the fact that he was a former Chief Justice from 2000 to 2009 and has reappointed as Chief Justice in 2013, Chief Justice Mami has a high reputation nationwide through Kazakhstan. He has been to Korea in May 2004 as Chief Justice.
After having a meeting with Chief Justice Yang in April 25, 2017, Chief Justice Mami visited the Constitutional Court in the afternoon and also visited the Judicial Research and Training Institute, the Supreme Prosecutor’s Office and the Supreme Court IT Center in April 26.
With the visit of Chief Justice Yang to Kazakhstan last year and the return visit of Chief Justice Mami to Korea this year, it is expected that mutual understanding and exchanges between the two judiciaries will deepen, and further judicial exchanges will be promoted.
