The Supreme Court held an appointment ceremony for 155 newly appointed judges who have more than five years of legal experiences as public prosecutors or lawyers at the Grand Auditorium of the Supreme Court on October 20, 2020.
This year, 100 men and 55 women aged between 30 and 45 were newly appointed as judges. Graduated from the Judicial Research and Training Institute or law schools, these judges have extensive experiences from various areas of law.
In his congratulatory speech, Chief Justice KIM Myeongsu said, “It is important that we make continuous contemplation on what a good trial is and endeavor to provide good trials to the citizens.” He called on to the new judges to, “make utmost efforts to become a judge who the citizens can trust upon, for those who find the court in desperation.”
The 155 newly appointed judges will take a four-month training course for new judges held at the Judicial Research and Training Institute from October 21, 2020 to February 28, 2021, which teaches in-depth thinking in the proceedings, how to draft an opinion, and the virtues and qualities that a judge must possess. Then they will be assigned to various levels of courts in March, 2021.
