The Honorable Chief Justice Sundaresh Menon of Singapore, accompanied by three justices, made an official visit to Korea in this significant year marking the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the Republic of Korea and Singapore.

During the visit, Chief Justice Menon and his delegation visited several key institutions, including the Supreme Court, the Seoul Bankruptcy Court, the Intellectual Property High Court, the Judicial Research and Training Institute, the Judicial Policy Research Institute, and the Supreme Court IT Center.

A bilateral meeting between the Chief Justices of Korea and Singapore was held at the Supreme Court, where justices from both countries engaged in in-depth discussions on three key topics: Court Technology (Justice Kwon Young Joon and Justice Aidan Xu), International Dispute Resolution (Justice Rho Tae-ak and Justice Philip Jeyaretnam), and Intellectual Property (Justice Lee Sook-yeon and Justice Valerie Thean).

Chief Justice Sundaresh Menon highlighted Singapore’s judiciary as one that enjoys strong public confidence and is recognized for its efficiency. He noted the judiciary’s proactive adoption of advanced technologies, including artificial intelligence, to assist with tasks such as summarizing legal materials and conducting precedent searches. Chief Justice Menon also emphasized Singapore’s innovative reforms in the field of international dispute resolution, particularly through the Singapore International Commercial Court (SICC), which appoints foreign judges and delivers timely resolutions in cross-border commercial cases.

Chief Justice Menon’s visit to Korea is expected to enhance mutual understanding between the two countries' judicial systems. It also offers a valuable opportunity to deepen cooperation through meaningful personnel exchanges and judicial collaboration, contributing to the shared advancement of both judiciaries.
