JFrom Wednesday, April 9 to Saturday, April 12, 2025, Justice SHIN Sukheui attended the International Association of Women Judges (IAWJ) Conference held in Cape Town, South Africa. This year’s conference focused on the leadership roles of women judges in advancing justice globally.

During the event, Justice Shin was elected as the Asia-Pacific Regional Director of the IAWJ, making her the third Korean judge in history to hold this position. Her election reflects the growing recognition of the leadership and meaningful contributions made by Korean women judges on the international stage.

The IAWJ, founded in 1991, aims to promote human rights, justice, and equity through collaboration among women judges. The organization boasts over 10,400 members across 143 countries worldwide. The IAWJ holds a biennial conference, during which two Regional Directors are elected for a term of two years. For the Asia-Pacific region, one director is elected from an Asian country and the other from an Oceanian country. Justice Shin's election marks the third time a Korean judge has been selected for this role, following former Presiding Judge Kim Young-hye in 2006 and former Justice Min You-sook in 2010.
