¡á The Supreme Court of Korea has established the "Sejong Award for Legal Excellence" to honor and uphold King Sejong the Great’s philosophy of people-centered rule of law by recognizing individuals and organizations that have contributed to the advancement of the judiciary and the realization of justice.

¤ýInternal Regulations on the Sejong Award for Legal Excellence (Internal Regulations of the National Court Administration) came into effect on July 1, 2026.

¡á The first Sejong Award for Legal Excellence will be co-hosted by the Supreme Court of Korea and the World Bank. The award ceremony is scheduled to take place at the Grand Hyatt Seoul during the week of the 20th Conference of Chief Justices of Asia and the Pacific, on Wednesday, September 16, 2026 (subject to change).

¡á Award recipients will be selected through recommendations from designated institutions and a review by the Sejong Award Selection Committee. A total of two awards will be presented, one to a domestic recipient and one to an international recipient, each of whom may be an individual or an organization.

- Eligibility Criteria: Individuals or organizations that have: 

¤ý Contributed to upholding the Rule of Law

¤ý Advanced and promoted legal culture and the development of judicial systems

¤ý Protected vulnerable populations and improved access to justice

¤ý Expanded international judicial exchange and cooperation

¤ý Exemplified King Sejong the Great’s principle of people-centered governance through legal practice
