¡Ü Appointment ceremony and first meeting of the Special Commission for the Improvement of Final Appeal System
- The Supreme Court held appointment ceremony for members of the Special Commission for the Improvement of Final Appeal System on Friday, January 17, 2020 at Mugunghwa Hall located at the 16th floor of the Supreme Court building
- Chief Justice KIM Myeongsu conferred the letter of appointment to the chairperson and each member of the Commission
¡Ü The Special Commission for the Improvement of Final Appeal System is composed of 11 members who represent the judicial, legislative and executive branches as well as academics, lawyers and civil organizations.
- Two judges selected upon recommendation of the National Conference of Chief Judges and National Conference of Judges
- Two lawyers selected upon recommendation of the Korean Bar Association
- One public prosecutor selected upon recommendation of the Ministry of Justice
- One expert from the National Assembly
- Five experts from the academia and civil organizations
¡Ü In consideration of the expertise, experiences, age and other criteria, the Chief Justice appointed Dr. LEE Heon-hwan (Professor of Ajou University Law School and former President of the Korean Public Law Association) as the Chairperson of the Committee.
¡Ü Future Plans of the Special Commission for the Improvement of Final Appeal System
- The Special Commission for the Improvement of Final Appeal System plans to carry out research and review on the following matters that were suggested at the Advisory Meeting for Judicial Administration:
1. Review the advantages and disadvantages of the previously suggested measures on the improvement of final appeal system and analyze the effect of each measure;
2. Seek for concrete methods to extensively collect opinions and ideas from the legal professionals and the public (use appropriate methods to gather opinions during and throughout the research); and
3. Explore the most ideal measures to improve the final appeal system that the public can willingly accept, although it does not have to be a single measure but feasible ones.
 The Special Commission for the Improvement of Final Appeal System will carry out research and collect ideas and opinions to draw the most appropriate measure that will enhance the final appeal system.
