TITLE Chief Justice of the Philippines Visits the Supreme Court of Korea

  ¢Ã A delegation of 20, led by Alexander G. Gesmundo, Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of the Philippines, is currently on an official visit to the Republic of Korea. The delegation arrived on Sunday, July 5, and is scheduled to conclude its visit and depart on Saturday, July 11, 2026.

  ¢Ã Significance of the Visit

Chief Justice JO Hee-de and Chief Justice Alexander G. Gesmundo discussed the direction of electronic litigation development in both countries, with a focus on the “Enhancement Plan for Digital Transformation” of the Philippines.


    ¡Ü KOICA is currently implementing a project to digitize judicial information and enhance capacity building in the Philippines. As part of this initiative, the Korean judiciary participated in the preliminary survey team in 2025.

    ¡Ü The delegation visited Korea to attend an interim report meeting of the Knowledge Sharing Program organized by the Korea Development Institute (KDI), with the theme of advancing the electronic litigation system of the Philippines.


  ¢Ã During this visit, Chief Justices of both countries shared Korea's experience in judicial digitalization, including the electronic litigation system and AI-integrated judicial services. They also discussed ways to strengthen international judicial cooperation and foster bilateral exchanges between the two judiciaries.


    ¡Ü Chief Justice JO Hee-de presented the history of Korea’s judicial digitalization, including the electronic registration and electronic litigation systems. He further committed to providing cooperation to address the requests made by the Supreme Court of the Philippines regarding their digital transformation.

    ¡Ü Chief Justice Gesmundo inquired about the Korean judiciary's experience in overcoming challenges during the early stages of electronic litigation implementation, as well as its guidelines for AI integration and strategies to mitigate AI hallucinations.


  ¢Ã Chief Justice Alexander G. Gesmundo previously visited the Supreme Court of Korea back in November 2023.


    ¡Ü His previous visit in 2023 was aimed at benchmarking Korea’s electronic litigation system and efforts to streamline court procedures, in line with the Philippine judiciary’s “Strategic Plan for Judicial Innovation (SPJI), 2022-2027.”

  ¢Ã The visit of the Chief Justice of the Philippines will serve as an opportunity to solidify practical and sustainable exchanges between the two judiciaries by exploring ways to foster continued cooperation, particularly through expanding international engagement and establishing collaborative channels in the areas of electronic litigation and judicial digital transformation.

 

  ¢Ã The Supreme Court of the Philippines has confirmed its participation in the 20th Conference of Chief Justices of Asia and the Pacific, to be hosted by the Supreme Court of Korea in September 2026.
