14th Korea-Japan Judges’ Workshop Held (June 30-July 2, 2025) The 14th Korea-Japan Judges’ Workshop took place at the Supreme Court from June 30 to July 2, 2025. This workshop is designed to share judicial information and best practices, as well as to discuss current issues facing the judiciaries of both countries. Since its inception in 2005, the workshop has been held alternately each year in Korea and Japan. Although it was paused in 2018, the workshop resumed in 2025 after discussions between the Chief Justices of Korea and Japan during the 19th Conference of Chief Justices of Asia and the Pacific in 2024. The Japanese delegation was composed of three judges and was led by Judge Yoshioka Hirotada, Director of the First Division at the General Affairs Bureau, General Secretariat of the Supreme Court of Japan. The delegation also included Judge Takazakura Shinpei, Director for International Affairs in the Secretary Division of the General Secretariat, and Judge Arimoto Sakiko, Staff Attorney for the Civil Affairs Bureau and for the Director of Digital Transformation at the General Secretariat. The Korean delegation was led by Presiding Judge HWANG Insung, Director General for Planning of the National Court Administration. The Korean delegation included High Court Judge JANG Jiyong, Director General for International Cooperation, Presiding Judge BAEK Kwang-kyoon of the Western Branch of the Busan District Court, Judge KIM Taek-woo, Director of Judicial IT and Planning, Judge LEE Hae-rang, Director of Criminal Procedure, and Dr. KIM Eunsil, Director of International Affairs. The delegations from Korea and Japan held a productive discussion over three sessions that focused on expediting court proceedings, advancing digital transformation in the judiciary, and addressing current issues in court administration. These sessions provided a valuable opportunity for both countries to share and compare judicial information. The workshop also included visits to the Supreme Court IT Center and the Seoul Central District Court. |
