On September 13, 2017, the Korean Court’s Day celebration event was held at the Grand Auditorium of the Supreme Court.

The Judiciary of Korea designated September 13 as the Court’s Day since 2015 to remind the its members of the process of how the country’s judicial autonomy was restored and of the significance of judicial independence and the rule of law, while also recalling the importance of the roles of the courts and judges.

The event started from 11:00 in the morning before the members of the Judiciary, with programs including a video clip on the Court’s Day, celebration speech of the Chief Justice, conferment of award certificates by the Chief Justice, joint celebration performance of the court choir and children’s choir.

The award certificates were presented to: Judge SHIN Dong-ju who has been operating a cyber school for juveniles under protection; KIM Yeong-gak, who is serving as a court clerk at Cheongju Branch Court and has been leading active volunteer works; mediation commissioner PARK Jung-geun of Ulsan District Court; and civil judicial commissioner LEE Mi-rae of Changwon District Court.
 

Chief Justice YANG Sung-tae delivered the celebration speech and addressed the members of the Judiciary that, “I am truly pleased that this marks the third Court’s Day and is becoming one of the most meaningful days to the members of the courts.  Taking this opportunity, I suggest we recall the history of our predecessors’ efforts to firmly establish the independence of the Judiciary since the restoration of judicial autonomy, and the true meaning of judicial independence expected in the modern times.”
