Appointment of the Second President of Judicial Policy Research Institute
Supreme Court appointed Emeritus Professor HO Moon-hyuk of Seoul National University School of Law as the second President of Judicial Policy Research Institute (JPRI) on February 1, 2016
¡Ü Appointment Background
- Following former JPRI President CHOI Song-wha’s resignation on February 1, 2016, new President was appointed.
¡Ü Appointment Procedure
- JPRI President is appointed by the Chief Justice following the consensus of the Council of Supreme Court Justices by appointing the nominee as a judge or as a “public official in political service” (Article 76-3, paragraph 1 of the Court Organization Act); candidacy application can be made public when appointing the president as a public official in political service position (Article 10.1 of the Judicial Policy Research Institute Operation Rules).
- To continue improving the judicial and trial systems based on the JPRI research achievements from the past two years, the Supreme Court decided to appoint an expert from outside the judiciary as a public official in political service, as it had been the case with the first president. After going through the public candidacy and the consensus procedure in the Council of Supreme Court Justices, Emeritus Professor HO Moon-hyuk of Seoul National University School of Law was appointed as the second JPRI President.
¡Ü Significance of the Appointment - Newly appointed President Ho is an eminent expert in the field of civil procedure law and has been making in-depth research on trial procedures and judicial system. He also has been making significant contributions to building the framework for international joint research by participating in various international activities. Such qualifications led to the expectation that his research works and activities will serve as great assets to the JRTI by constructing an efficient judicial system for citizens and leading the organization to be a responsible and motivation-driven think tank of the Korean Judiciary in the globe. |
