In legal proceedings, hearing-impaired people have been experiencing communication difficulties, without the availability of standardized expression of legal sign terminologies and due to lack of accurate understanding on legal terms during trial proceedings.

To that extent, the National Court Administration published <Sign Language Glossary of Legal Terms for Civil Proceedings>, following the <Sign Language Glossary of Legal Terms for Criminal Proceedings> published in the previous year.

The Glossary provides explanations on each proceeding and the vocabularies, phrases and examples that are practically used in civil proceedings, with detailed explanations on important legal terms.

It also contains QR codes that conveniently connects to photos and video materials. The photos and QR codes in the Glossary book enable direct access to the web pages of video materials of the sign gestures.

The judiciary expects that the Glossary will assist the hearing-impaired people and sign language interpreters to accurately understand legal terminologies, which will further enhance effective communication and help the hearing-impaired people better exercise their rights during judicial proceedings.

The National Court Administration plans to publish <Sign Language Glossary of Legal Terms for Family Proceedings> in the next year.
