TITLE National Chief Judges¡¯ Meeting Held

The Chief Judges' Meeting for Courts nationwide took place at Resom Forest in Jecheon, Chungcheong-buk-do, from March 7 to 8, 2024. The event was attended by forty-two participants, including Chief Judges and the Minister of National Court Administration. In his opening remarks, the Minister of National Court Administration urged the attending chief judges to acknowledge the public's demand for speedy trials and to make every effort to restore public trust. He also expressed his commitment to creating a healthy and supportive work environment accommodating both work and family life. The meeting began with briefings on the main tasks of each court, followed by a discussion of significant issues facing the courts. In particular, chief judges from across the country discussed measures to increase the number of judges to eliminate trial delays. They emphasized the importance of increasing the number of judges and provided updates on the revision proposal of the Act on the Prescribed Number of Judges. Given the likelihood that a shortage of judges will lead to a reduction in court sessions, causing delays in trials, there was a consensus that the Act on the Prescribed Number of Judges of Various Levels of Courts, currently under deliberation by the National Assembly, should be passed expeditiously.
